The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
